Engineering Society of Detroit began when 13 engineering students from the University of Michigan came together in 1895 to demonstrate to the university Regents the value of an engineering education. With the financial support of the Rackham Engineering Fund, the society became – and remains – the center of Detroit’s engineering community, with a membership list that has included Charles Kettering, William “Bunky” Knudsen, Henry Ford, Henry Ford II, Alex Dow, Lee Iacocca, Elliott “Pete” Estes, Albert Kahn, and G.
